Obiturary: Ralph Eugene Hager, 87, Elizabethtown
Command Master Chief USN (Ret) Ralph Eugene Hager, 87, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at Atria Assisted Living. He was a native of Flaherty, a graduate of Flaherty High School and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran and retired from the US Navy after 27 years of service. He also retired from the City of Elizabethtown after 18 years. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1455, the Monsignor McGee General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of American Legion Kentucky Post 113.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Cacilia Huber Hager; his parents, Charles E. and Mary Edna Redmon Hager; four sisters, Louise Ray, Helen M. Hager, Frances Evans, and Catherine Hager; seven brothers, Woodrow Hager, John Hager, Charles Hager, Bernard Hager, Joseph Hager, James Hager, and George Hager.
He is survived by two children, Ralph J. (Beth) Hager of Bardstown and Charlotte A. (Robert L.) Johnson of Elizabethtown; one sister, Hildagarde Buckles; one brother, Thaddeus “Pete” Hager; five grandchildren, Robert, Kristin, Joshua, Brenna, and Alexa all of Elizabethtown; and one great grandson, Wesley.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Brown officiating with burial with military honors in St. James Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions for Masses in his name or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
