Joseph S. “Hup” Johnson, 85, of Louisville

Joseph S. “Hup” Johnson, 85, of Louisville, formerly of New Haven, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, with his family at his side.

He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Louisville. He attended St. Catharine of Alexandria church in New Haven. He served in the Army from 1950-52 with Company A 78th Engineers at Fort Benning, Ga. He retired from Ford Motor Co. after 42 years of service.

He was born May 15, 1926, to the late Stanley and Valeria Boone Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph B. “J.B.” Johnson and a sister, Mary Jeanette Liston.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Ray Johnson of Louisville; four sisters-in-law, Dolly Ray and Mary Ann Cahoe, both of Louisville, Billie Alvey and June Mahoney, both of New Haven; a brother-in-law, Larry Ray of Louisville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at St. Catharine of Alexandria  Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Troy Overton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2 – 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011, and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to time of the service at the William R. Rust Funeral Home, 167 N. Main St., New Haven. A prayer service is 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Troy Overton officiating.

The William R. Rust Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
