Obituary: Luella Young Christerson, 89, formerly of Washington County
Luella Young Christerson, 89, of Louisville, formerly of the Mooresville Community of Washington County, was called home at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Wesley Manor Health Care Center in Louisville. She was a native of Washington County. She was born April 8, 1928, to the late Robert Clark “Bob” and Evie Foster Young.
She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where she served as pianist for more than 40 years. She was a former house parent for the Kentucky Baptist Homes For Children and in later years she provided private in-home patient care service.
She was preceded in death was her sister, Doris O’Bryan on May 13, 2001; and two brothers, Charles Young on September 14, 2009 and Kenneth Young on April 6, 2017.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie Renfrow (Roy) of Louisville, Kim Singleton and Geoffrey McWhorter (John), both of Springfield; two sons, Mike Christerson and Brad Christerson (Paula), both of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Tobe Yankey, the church pastor, officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters. Serving as casket bearers will be Chris Renfrow, David Renfrow, Douglas Spalding, Suzanne Spalding, George P. Christerson and Jacob Staten.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home, 216 East Main Street, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wesley Manor Benevolent Care Fund, 5012 East Manslick Road, Louisville, KY 40219.
