Obituary: James Terry Smothers Sr., 66, Cox’s Creek

James Terry Smothers Sr., 66, of Cox’s Creek, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at his residence. He was born July 15, 1951, in Lebanon to the late James and Eva Mae Mattingly Smothers. He was a farmer, retired truck driver, owner of Sunrise Farm Equipment and had dealt in farm equipment since he was 15 years old. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Lebanon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Ann Hagy; and one brother, Gary Smothers.

JHe is survived by his wife of 36 years, Connie Fulkerson Smothers; one daughter, Emma (Shane) McCubbins of Bardstown; two sons, James Terry “Jamie” Smothers Jr., of Lebanon, and Josh Smothers of Cox’s Creek; three sisters, Amy Burnside of Bardstown, Shelia (Tim) Gill of Lexington, and Shirley Baird of Mount Washington; one brother, John (Shirley) Smothers of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Cassidy Smothers, Jonathan (Allison) Smothers and Kyle Wagoner; and three great-grandchildren, Diego, Aidan and Auroya.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Houghlin Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Gann officiating. Burial is in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, and 8:30-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
