Monday, April 2, 2018 — Bardstown businessman John R. “Jack” Hurst filed his statement of intent late Friday to run as an independent candidate for the office of Nelson County judge executive.
The last day to file as an independent candidate is usually April 1. But because the Nelson County Clerk’s Office was closed April 1, the deadline was moved to 4 p.m. today, April 2.
Hurst, owner of The Shirt Shop, filed his statement Friday in the office of Nelson County Clerk Elaine Filiatreau. Hurst must complete his filing by submitting a petition of nomination to the county clerk by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014.
The filing sets up a possible three-way general election race for judge-executive, featuring the winner of the Dean Watts vs. Kenny Fogle Democratic primary, facing off in November against Republican Don Thrasher and Jack Hurst as an independent.
Hurst submitted the same filing four years ago on April 1, 2014, April Fool’s Day. He did not complete his filing with a nominating petition before the August deadline.
Hurst must complete his filing with a completed nomination petition by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018.
