Obituary: Benedict Joseph ‘Ben’ Peterson Jr., 68, Lebanon
Benedict Joseph “Ben” Peterson Jr., 68, of Lebanon, died Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was born March 31, 1950, in Marion County. He formerly owned and operated the old “Ben’s Restaurant and Disco” and “White’s Castle” in Lebanon. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era.
He was preceded in death by parents, Benedict Joseph Peterson Sr. and Martha Ann “Pockey” Wallace Peterson; one daughter, Carrey Dickerson; and one brother Vic Peterson.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Mae Mattingly Peterson, three daughters, Debra Calvin (Kevin) of Chillicothe, Ohio, Elissa Dawn Meeks of Lebanon and Rachel Lewis (Jamie) of Gravel Switch; one son, Cleave Hourigan (Amanda) of Hampton, Fla.; five sisters, Monzell Perry (Dennis) of Cincinnati, Sue Nicol (Mark) of Atlanta, Pat Abell of Cape Gerardo, Mo., Joyce Gaddie of Lebanon and Dee Dee Peterson of Mount Washington; one sister-in-law, Ann Peterson of Lebanon; 13 grandchildren, Ashley McCory (Tyler), Cheyenne Hourigan, Samantha Hourigan, Sarah Hourigan, Ethan Hourigan, Chris Wheeler, Caleb Lewis, Torrie Lewis, Grace Meeks, Amelia Meeks, Samuel Calvin, Jacob Calvin and Patrick Dickerson; and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Hannah and Lilly Hannah.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with Chaplain Mike Fenwick officiating. Burial is in Lebanon National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may go toward funeral expenses and may be made at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Samuel Calvin, Jacob Calvin, Caleb Lewis, Chris Wheeler, Patrick Dickerson and Lancaster Smith.
The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
