Obituary: James Alvin ‘Al’ Monin, 81, Bardstown
James Alvin “Al” Monin, 81, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at his son’s residence. He was born Aug. 28, 1936, in Fairfield, to the late C.K. and Thelma Ballard Monin. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Delaney Monin; and two brothers, Raphael Monin and Joseph “Sonny” Monin.
He is survived by one son, Jimmy (Kim) Monin of Cox’s Creek; three sisters, Martha (Frank) Wheeler, Linda (John) Roby, and Carolyn (Les) Backherms, all of Bardstown; four brothers, Charles Monin and Paul (Brenda) Monin, both of Bardstown, Donald Monin of Virginia, and Bill Monin of Hardinsburg; close friend Doris Phillips of Bardstown; and two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Monin and Amy Margaret Monin.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, with evening prayers and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Nelson County or Down Syndrome of Louisville.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
