Obituary: James ‘Jimmy’ Hatfield III, 73, Bardstown

James “Jimmy” Hatfield III, 73, of Bardstown, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at Bardstown Health and Rehabilitation. He was born Sept. 11, 1944, in Sacramento, Fla., to the late James G. Jr. and Edith Martin Hatfield.

He was a truck driver for Jim Beam Distillery for 25 years, a U.S. Army veteran who was stationed in Europe during the Vietnam War. He served on the Bardstown/Nelson County Volunteer Fire Department for more than 35 years, and served as Deputy Chief for a period of time. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Tracy Hatfield Downs of Bardstown; one son, Mike Hatfield of Sellersburg, Ind.; one sister, Brenda Deak of Bluffton, S.C.; one half-sister, Margaret Ann Chott of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Karl Lusk officiating.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2018, and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.

The Houghlin Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
