Friday, Aug. 20, 2018 — The Nelson County Schools Board of Education named Thomas Nelson High School principal Wes Bradley the district’s next superintendent.

The vote was 4-1, with board member Diane Berry voting no. Berry said she felt Bradley lacked experience necessary for the job. She pledged to support the board’s decision and continue working for better educational opportunities in Nelson County Schools.

Wes Bradley speaks to the crowd after the board of education’s vote naming him the district’s new superintendent.

The announcement was greeted with cheers and applause from the large audience at Friday afternoon’s standing-room only special meeting.

After the vote, board chair Damon Jackey introduced Bradley, whose entry at the back of the room brought even more applause and cheers.

Bradley spoke briefly to the audience, expressing his appreciation for the board’s support. He will begin his official duties as district superintendent on May 1.

In a press release Bradley reaffirmed his commitment to the district’s movement forward from this point.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work closely with families, teachers, and school leaders across Nelson County. I am confident that our board team and schools will continue to work tirelessly to support all students in our care,” he said.

“Growing up in Nelson County I was blessed to be in the care of remarkable mentors, teachers, and coaches. Over the past seven years it has been an honor to share this same form of care and mentorship with others as an educational leader.”

Bradley has served as TNHS principal since the high school opened in 2012.

Bradley was the board’s top choice out of the 20 applicants who initially pursued the job opening.
