Obituary: James Lee Coomes, 56, Cox’s Creek

James Lee Coomes, 56, of Cox’s Creek, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 9, 1962, in Bardstown to Arthur Murrill and Linda Carol Stansbury Coomes. He enjoyed Dallas Cowboy football, UK Wildcats basketball, NASCAR racing, and being outdoors. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Murrill Coomes; one son, William Daniel Coomes; and one brother, Johnathon Raymond Coomes.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Louise Coomes (Kieth Johnson) of Killeen, Texas; his mother, Linda Carol Rountree of Cox’s Creek; three sisters, Lauren Carol Thompson of Cox’s Creek, Suzanne Merle Coomes of Albany, Ga., and Catherine Lynn (Bill) Klapper of Monroe, Ohio; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen by the family. A graveside service for family and friends is 3 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at the Bardstown Cemetery.

The family requests expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the family for burial expenses.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
