Obituary: John Joseph ‘Jack’ Greenwell, 80, Bardstown

JOHN JOSEPH “JACK” GREEENWELL

John Joseph “Jack” Greenwell, 80, of Bardstown, died Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital after a long battle with COPD. He was born in Louisville to the late James Kendrick and Mayme Buehner Greenwell. He was a 1955 graduate of St. Xavier High School. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from U.S. Naval Ordnance with 32 years of service. He also retired from Nazareth Campus Service. He was a member of N.O.S.L. Supervisors Association and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Flaget Memorial Hospital and Hardin Memorial Hospital for their care.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Oechslin Greenwell; one son, John Michael “Mike” Greenwell of Bardstown; one sister-in-law, Ann Bellingham of Louisville; one grandson, Steven (Amanda) Montgomery of Bardstown; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Montgomery and Carson Montgomery; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is noon Monday, May 14, 2018, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018, and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6 p.m. prayer service Sunday.

The family request that expression of sympathy take the form of contributions to Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, PO Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
