Obituary: Mary Louise Hicks, 94, Holy Cross

Mary Louise Hicks, 94, of Holy Cross, died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Marion County. She was a homemaker and member of Holy Cross Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. “Junior” Hicks, Jr.; her father, Thomas Clell Jackson; her mother, the former Mary Crozier Cecil; her stepfather, Frank Elmore; two sisters, Gondola Miles and Theresa Raley; and six brothers, Raffo Jackson, Ernest Jackson, J. E. Jackson, William Hal Jackson, Sr., Donald Elmore and Lawrence Elmore.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice Unseld of Bardstown, Tammy Mattingly (Jimmy) and Brenda Hicks, both of Holy Cross; five sons, Ralph Hicks of Bardstown, Glen Hicks (Joann), Ronnie Hicks (Pat) and Keith Hicks all of Holy Cross and Dennis Hicks of Shepherdsville; one sister, Geraldine Fogle of Bardstown; one brother, Estel Elmore of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Loretto with the Rev. Bryan T. Lamberson officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Scott Hicks, Mike Unseld, Jeff Unseld, Neal Hicks, Brandon Hicks and Logan Mattingly; Honorary Pallbearers are granddaughters and stepgrandchildren, Kim Adkins, Kayla Cambron, Calli Cox, Lindsey Mattingly, Kristen Ryan and Tayler Ryan.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
