Saturday, May 19, 2018 — As Wes Bradley takes the helm as the new superintendent of Nelson County Schools, his predecessor has been hired as the new superintendent of Powell County Schools.

ANTHONY ORR

The Powell County Board of Education voted 4-1 to hire former Nelson County Superintendent Anthony Orr as its new superintendent at its meeting Monday, May 14, 2018.

Orr was hired Jan. 4 as the school district’s interim superintendent — a position he said was a temporary one at the time he was hired. He was hired to replace Powell County Superintendent Michael Tate, who stepped down on Dec. 31, 2017.

According to a story in the Clay City Times, while Orr was serving as interim superintendent of the Powell County School he changed his mind.

“When I came my intent was to really make sure I did everything I could to keep the district moving forward and in better position for the next superintendent to take the reins — that’s how I got started,” he told the board.

“But I’ll tell you within a matter of just a few weeks I had very thoroughly changed my mind and the reason is really very simple. Because of the people that I had been working with since I got here to the staff at central office, at the annex, principals, teachers, cafeteria workers, and custodians that I’ve spoken with over the past several months the students and parents that I had the opportunity to meet with while working with the board.”

Orr served as superintendent of Nelson County Schools for seven years before he stepped down on July 31, 2017.
