EMS, fire, police respond for BG Parkway head-on crash near county line

Saturday, May 26, 2018 — At least three people were injured Saturday evening in what was described as a two vehicle head-on collision in the eastbound lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway near the 42 mile marker.

Nelson County EMS, Washington County EMS, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and the Northeast Nelson Fire Department were dispatched at 7:13 p.m. Saturday for the two-vehicle injury accident near the Nelson-Washington County line. According to witnesses, one of the vehicles in the crash left the roadway and hit a rock wall. Firefighters assisted getting the victims out of their vehicles, and a medical profession helped treat the injured prior to the arrival of EMS.

Three victims were described as having serious injuries and were treated at the scene by EMS.

A 30-year-old female was flown directly from the accident scene to University Hospital with abdominal pain and pain in her neck and back. A four-year-old girl was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital before being flown to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville for treatment. The status of others injured in the crash is not known.

The eastbound lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway were shutdown while first-responders assisted the injured. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
