10-year-old’s body recovered after Rolling Fork River accidental drowning

Sunday, May 27, 2018 — A 10-year-old boy drowned Sunday afternoon in the Rolling Fork River in the area of the 200 block of Lyon Station Road.

At about 4:07 p.m. Sunday, the Rolling Fork Fire Department, Nelson County EMS, New Haven police and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area for an apparent drowning. First responders were told the boy was last seen playing at the river and then disappeared.

At about 4:18 p.m., the Bardstown Fire Department was asked for assistance by bringing their watercraft and water rescue team to assist. The response was for a recovery rather than a rescue.

The boy’s body was located at around 5:20 p.m. According to Nelson County Coroner Field Houghlin, an autopsy will be performed Monday.
