“I am honored to be offered this opportunity to lead,” Newton commented. “Thomas Nelson High School is a very special community filled with remarkable LEADERs,”
The TNHS SBDM voted May 29, to appoint Newton to the post after completing their review of all applications. A reception for the new principal took place Wednesday, May 30, in the TNHS Media Center.
She has worked as a teacher at TNHS since the school opened.. She has earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Columbia University (New York) and a Masters in Secondary Education from Western Governor’s University (Salt Lake City), after receiving an undergraduate degree in Political Science at Saint Martin’s University (Lacey, Wash.).
“Six years ago, Thomas Nelson introduced the concept of “Purple Cow” and “YES” to our community, knowing we would dare to be great. Our teachers, parents, and students have worked hard to create a truly remarkable culture. Together we have worked to defy assumptions and we will continue to do so,” she said.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of continuing learning from the teachers, parents, and students at TNHS as we look towards the future of our school and community.”
Superintendent Wes Bradley praised Newton’s record of leadership at the school during his tenure as its principal.
“Courtney is a leader that makes everyone around her better. Courtney’s steadfast leadership in the classroom and as an assistant principal at Thomas Nelson has been a model for us all to look to,” Bradley said through a press release. “I am confident that TNHS will soar under Courtney’s leadership. We are very proud that Mrs. Newton will be joining the Principal leadership team in our Nelson County Schools.”
