Obituary: Joseph Edwin Darst, 80, Cox’s Creek

Joseph Edwin Darst, 80, of Cox’s Creek, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at UK Hospital in Lexington. He was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Leitchfield. He was a former employee of General Electric and a former Nelson County school bus driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an avid coin collector and also enjoyed tinkering with old clocks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edwin and Mary Ellen Smallwood Darst; one sister, Betty Peerenboom; one brother, Charles Darst.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cordie Phelps Darst; three daughters, Joann Darst of Clarksville, Ind., Edwinnia Wasdin (Joel) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Datha Thompson (Eric) of Holy Cross; one son, Greg Darst of Holy Cross; and five grandchildren, Burcu Darst, Joey Darst, Erica Thompson, Joshua Darst and Cory Thompson.

The funeral is 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with cremation to follow with Deacon Joseph R. Dant officiating.

Visitation is 3-7 PM Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
