Tuesday, June 12, 2018 — The Bourbon Capital of the World will be celebrating one of its most important industries on National Bourbon Day on Thursday, June 14th.

In recognition of National Bourbon Week, the Bourbon Capital Community Alliance (BCCA) and the Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History will be hosting a celebration on the lawn of Spalding Hall. This event will celebrate the historical significance of bourbon in our community and the recent additions and changes to the Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History.

These changes were made possible through a partnership with the Frazier Museum in Louisville.

The celebration will include remarks from local leaders and the honoring of this day by the reading of special proclamations. Guests of the event will participate in a special toast to National Bourbon Day and to Nelson County’s bourbon industry.

Also, during the event the Kentucky Travel Industry Association will be presenting the Bardstown-Nelson County Tourist and Convention Commission the “Tourism Economic Engine Award.” The six distilleries in and near Nelson County in 2017 accounted for approximately 400,000 visitors from 49 states, two U.S. territories and 11 foreign countries.

The National Bourbon Day event begins at 11 a.m. on the front lawn of Spalding Hall. After the presentation, the Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting. The Museum will be open for tours and the Knights of Columbus will be serving hot dogs, brats, chips, sodas and water for lunch.

On Saturday, June 16, 2018, there will be music downtown and various restaurants and bars will be hosting bourbon related specials and activities.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend all the festivities.
