Sunday, July 1, 2018 — Franklin Hibbs IV has filed to run as a candidate for a seat on the Bardstown City Council.

Hibbs, 32, a resident of the 200 block of North Fourth Street, filed his candidacy paperwork with the Nelson County Clerk’s office on Friday.

He is the second candidate to file for a seat on the Bardstown City Council. Betty Kelley Hart filed in May to run as a council candidate.

All six city council seats and the office of mayor will be on the Nov. 6, 2018 General Election ballot. They are non-partisan races.

According to the Kentucky State Board of Elections, candidates for city council must be 18 years of age, a resident of the city for not less than 1 year prior to his or her election, a qualified voter in the city, and plan to live in the city during their term of office.

City council members are elected to two-year terms of office. The office of mayor is also on the November ballot, though it is a four-year term.

Of the six current members of the Bardstown City Council, only one — John Kelley Jr. — has made it clear he does not plan to see re-election.

The filing deadline for the non-partisan races on the November ballot is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.
