Obituary: Joseph Jerome ‘Jerry’ Newton, 67, St. Francis

Joseph Jerome “Jerry” Newton, 67, of St. Francis, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born Feb. 16, 1951m in Holy Cross. He was a retired employee of the Nelson County Road Department with 28 years of service. He loved his grandbabies and “Newton Valley Farm.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marie Newton; five sisters, Pauline Curtsinger, Nancy Mattingly, Judy Satterly, Susie Mattingly and infant Brenda Sue Newton; and two brothers, Carl Newton and David Newton.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Newton; two daughters, Wendy Welch (Travis) of Bardstown and Amanda Carlton (David) of Loretto; two sons, Jeremy Newton (Jacque) of Bardstown and Patrick Alvey (Stacy) of Loretto; one sister, Mary Ann Willett (Freddie) of Bardstown; and 11 grandchildren, Lexi Newton, Devan Newton, Janet Newton, Landon Miller, D.J. Carlton, Dallas Carlton, Cody Alvey, Ethan Alvey, Alivia Alvey, Jack Welch and Kade Welch.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Deacon Joseph R. Dant officiating. Cremation will follow.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM.

Pallbearers are Craig Mattingly, Patrick Alvey, Jeremy Newton, Devan Newton, Scott Willett, Steve Mudd and Keith Willett. His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
