Obituary: Thomas Lee ‘Tommy’ Cleary, KE4BOO, 79, Taylorsville

Thomas Lee “Tommy” Cleary, 79, of Taylorsville, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at his home. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fern Creek Masonic Lodge #955 F&AM.

He earned his Amateur Radio license while attending a license class here in Nelson County, and he received the callsign KE4BOO. Tommy’s nickname among most ham operators became the last part of his callsign — “Boo.” He was also a CB operator, a retired coal miner and convenient store owner.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Paulette Steele and Pamela Evans;
one son, Robert Spears; two sisters, Georgia May Cregger and Shelby Lawson; and one brother, Walter Edward Cleary.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Ann Taylor Cleary; four daughters, Kathy Romeo (Angelo), Ginger Mills (Ray), Genette Finney (David), and Petrellia Coppola (Augustino); one son, Zachary Cleary (Tammy); three sisters, Norma White (Jerry), Louise Cregger, and Francess West-Poma; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home..

The McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
