One dead, one injured in early Sunday morning Bluegrass Parkway crash

Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 — One person died and another was injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday morning near the 12 mile marker in the westbound lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway.
According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, at about 5:36 a.m., police, EMS and the Nelson County Fire Department were dispatched for a single-vehicle accident on the Bluegrass Parkway.
Police say the vehicle left the righthand side of the roadway and struck a guard rail before leaving the parkway and hitting a tree.
The 38-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The 24-year-old male driver was treated at the scene by EMS and then flown from the scene to University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The identities of the victims is being withheld pending notification of the families.
