Eight candidates file for office ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s 4 p.m. deadline

Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, 4:30 p.m. — It was a busy Tuesday afternoon at the Nelson County Clerk’s office with 8 candidates filing for office ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline.

BARDSTOWN MAYOR, COUNCIL. Frank Thompson Jr. filed Tuesday as a candidate for mayor of Bardstown.

The 72-year-old Lucy Drive resident is an active member of American Legion Post 42. He was a candidate for Bardstown City Council in 2016.

Guthrie Drive resident Detra Haycraft, 37, filed Tuesday as a candidate for Bardstown city council.

NEW HAVEN MAYOR. Two people filed Tuesday for the office of mayor of New Haven.

Current New Haven Mayor Tessie Cecil filed as a candidate for mayor on the November ballot. The 70-year-old Center Street resident filed for office on her birthday, Aug. 14th.

Current City Commissioner Jane Masse also filed Tuesday as a candidate for New Haven mayor. Masse, 60, is a resident of North Main Street.

BLOOMFIELD CITY COUNCIL. Incumbent Bloomfield city council member Lynn Suzanne Marks, 58, a resident of Chaplin Road, filed Tuesday as a candidate to keep her seat on the council.

Nathan Jones, 39, of Fairfield Hill Road, also filed Tuesday as a candidate for Bloomfield City Council.

FAIRFIELD CITY COMMISSION. Katherine Simpson, 35, a resident of Church Street, and Katy Buckman, 36, a resident of West Main Street, both filed Tuesday as candidates seeking a seat on the Fairfield City Commission.

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE. The last day to register to vote in the November election is Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018. Individuals who are currently 17 but will turn 18 by Election Day, Nov. 6, 2018, are also eligible to register to vote.
