Sheriff’s Office: County school bus involved in Monday Louisville Road accident

NC GAZETTE / WBRT RADIO
STAFF REPORT

Monday, Aug. 27, 2018 — No one was injured in what was initially called a two-vehicle accident at about 7:30 a.m. Monday morning on Louisville Road at its intersection with Sullivan Lane. A Nelson County EMS ambulance crew rolled up on the incident and reported it to Nelson County Dispatch, and two Nelson County deputy sheriffs were dispatched to respond.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, a female juvenile was operating a Ford Fusion driving south when a Nelson County Schools bus made a left turn in front of her from Sullivan Lane onto Louisville Road. The juvenile driver was forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision with the bus, running off the road and activating the vehicle’s air bags. Witnesses said the school bus left the area. The juvenile driver and her two female juvenile passengers were not injured.

Officers determined the car and school bus did not collide. The bus driver was listed as a contributing factor to the accident because the bus forced the juvenile driver to take actions to avoid a crash.

Lt. Kaelen Matthews of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident.
