Obituary: Mary James Corey, SCN, 84

Mary James Corey, SCN, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 61 years. She was born in Chicago. She served in educational ministries as an elementary school teacher from 1956-1979. During that time, she taught at Immaculate Conception in Ohio; St. Anthony, Sacred Heart and St. Thomas in Kentucky; and Most Precious Blood, St. Brigid and St. Anne in Massachusetts. She later served in secondary education at Presentation Academy in Louisville.

From 1980-1983, she served in health care ministry at Our Lady of Peace in Louisville. She served her SCN Community as supervisor of food service on Nazareth Campus. She also volunteered at Candy for Caring from 1988-2014.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret Jude Corey, CSJ, and by her religious community.

Her wake is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at our Lady of Nazareth Chapel, Nazareth Home, Louisville; and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Nazareth.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul Church at Nazareth. Burial is in Nazareth Cemetery.

The Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, is in charge of arrangements.
