Obituary: George Allen Thomas, 94, St. Francis

George Allen Thomas, 94, of St. Francis, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Cedars of Lebanon Nursing Center. He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Jefferson County to the late James Cornelius and Barnette Scamahorne Thomas. He was a retired farmer and former employee of the University of Louisville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Catherine Jacobs Thomas (1997); and one infant son, Robert Lee Thomas (1966).

Survivors include two sons, James Allen “Squirrel” Thomas and Donald Lee “Chip” Thomas, both of St. Francis; and one sister, Agnes Walter of Louisville.

A graveside service is 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Lebanon National Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is noon – 1 p.m. Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
