Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 — Two people were injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Loretto Road. At about 3 p.m. Friday, Nelson County EMS, Nelson County Fire and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Loretto Road near the Nelson County line for an injury crash and what was then reported as a possible fatality.

First-responders arrived to find two people injured with the driver of one of the vehicles trapped in his vehicle. According to police, a 2000 Ford pickup truck operated by Cristina Espinoza, 39, of Louisville and a male passenger were traveling north on Loretto Road when they were struck by a 2005 Ford Escape driven by Jabari Jones, 22, of Bardstown, after the Escape went out of control for unknown reasons and crossed the center line.

Jones was extricated from his vehicle by firefighters, treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS before he was flown from the scene directly to University Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The second injured person was treated by EMS and transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital.

Nelson County Deputy Sheriff Josh Greenwell is the investigating the accident.
