Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018 — A 22-year-old man was arrested and a juvenile detained by police Saturday after the pair scaled a fence surrounding a tower owned by East Kentucky Power and then climbed the communications tower
At about 7 p.m. Saturday, Nelson County deputy sheriffs, Nelson County EMS and Nelson County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the location of the East Kentucky communications tower off Garrison Lane along the Bluegrass Parkway after two people were spotted climbing the tower.
When first-responders arrived at the scene, they reported the two male climbers were close to the top of the tower. Fire, EMS and law enforcement waited for the two to climb down. They reached the bottom of the tower at about 7:45 p.m.
The adult climber was identified as 22-year-old Skyler Jesse Crouse. Crouse was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor; wanton endangerment, first-degree; criminal trespassing, second-degree; and disorderly conduct second-degree.
The juvenile who climbed the tower was detained by the sheriff’s office and turned over to the custody of his parents.
According to the FCC tower database, the tower’s height above ground level is approximately 500 feet, not 1,000 as originally reported to police.
No one was injured in the incident.
