Obituary: Shirley Mae Cox Childress, 77, Buffalo

Shirley Mae Cox Childress, 77, of Buffalo, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown surrounded by her family. She was a Christian by faith, she was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She was a licensed beautician, a bookkeeper for Farm Bureau, a tax preparer, and a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of the Larue County Board of Education and a Notary Public. She was born Feb. 8, 1941, in Campbellsville to the late Jeremiah and Virginia Coleman Cox. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Virginia Coleman Cox; and one sister, Margaret Redman.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Childress of Buffalo; one son, J.J (Bonnie) Childress of Buffalo; two sisters, Dora Lee (Lewis) Waggoner and Julie Ann Colvin, both of Campbellsville; three grandchildren, Chole Childress, Chelsea Henderson and Josh Brown; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, with Bro. Shannon McCubbins officiating. Burial is in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, and 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, 612 N. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, is in charge of arrangements.
