Obituary: Mary Lillie ‘Snookie’ Newton, 76, New Haven

Mary Lillie “Snookie” Newton, 76, of New Haven, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 18, 1942, in Nelson County to the late John Orho and Anna Pearl Ballard Hagan. She was a retired employee of American Fuji Seal and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph “Billy” Newton; an infant son, John Lloyd Newton; four sisters, Della Mae Bryan, Dorothy Mae Carey, Pearl Berry, and Mary Lorraine Woods; and two brothers, John Eules Hagan and Frances John Hagan.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Denise (Pat) Ballard; three sons, Joseph Neal (Malinda) Newton, James Paul “Jim” Newton, both of Bardstown, and Charles Reginald “Reggie” (Lisa Harris) Newton of New Haven; two sisters, Ann Marie Goff of Bardstown and Cecilia Hagan of Alabama; three brothers, Chester “Chet” Hagan of Bardstown, Paul (Sheila) Hagan and Billy (Vilma) Hagan, both of Springfield; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Ben Brown officiating. Burial is in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road with a 7 p.m. Monday prayer service.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
