Wednesday, June 15, 2011, 2:40 p.m. — The thunderstorms that rolled through Central Kentucky about 6:30 Wednesday morning left a number of Salt River Electric customers in dark. The Bardstown-based utility reports they had customers affected by the storm in all four of the counties it serves — Nelson, Bullitt, Spencer and Washington.
Most of the initial outages were caused by lightning strikes, according to a Salt River press release. The utility had 700 customers without power after the initial storm passed through the area, with most of the reported outages located in Bullitt and Spencer Counties. About 200-300 Nelson County residents were affected by outages.
In addition to the initial outages, 900 Spencer County Salt River customers lost power about 10:30 Wednesday morning when a circuit was disrupted. Overall, the utility reported 2,000 outages during the day. As of 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, 50 customers were still without power.
