City school board approves contract with Bardstown PD for school resource officer

Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 — The Bardstown Board of Education approved an agreement Tuesday that will create a School Resource Officer position at the city schools campus.

Bardstown Police Chief Kim Kraeszig discusses the SRO agreement the board approved that will share the costs of having city police officer serve as SRO on the city schools campus.

The agreement with the Bardstown Police Department means the district agrees to pay the police department for cost of having a Bardstown police officer at the school campus serving as SRO.

When the officer isn’t serving as SRO, he or she would be doing regular police department duties.

Bardstown Police Chief Kim Kraeszig told the board that the partnership will benefit both the school district and the police department by allowing the SRO to build relationships with school-age community.

KSBA SERVICES. At its regular meeting Tuesday, the board of education also approved an agreement with the Kentucky School Board Association to take part in the KSBA Policy and Procedure Service.

The service means that the KSBA examines a district’s policies and procedures and assists the district with making legal and best-practice changes to administrative procedures and handbooks.

Superintendent Dr. Ryan Clark said the service will supplement the district’s own reviews of its policies and procedures. The service will provide updates annually as needed.

In other business, the board:

— approved entering into a contract with Cumberland Family Medical Services for the operation of the on-campus health clinic.

— briefly heard an overview of the working budget.

— approved a contract to continue to use KORT for athletic training services.

— approved an agreement for dual-credit courses with Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.
