Obituary: Theresa Carrico Evans, 96, Samuels

THERESA CARRICO EVANS

Theresa Carrico Evans, 96, of Samuels, died at her home with her loving family surrounding her on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. Momma Theresa (as she was known by many) was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Bardstown to the late Martin Joseph (World War I veteran) and Ullainee Rodman Carrico. She lead a full and active life. She was a homemaker, member of St. Gregory the Great Church where she was the oldest member, a former PTA officer for St. Gregory School, Alter Society, Bereavement Committee, active with church picnics and dinners. She was a Kentucky Colonel.

She married Polin Evans in 1938, and they raised eight children during their 66 years of marriage. Their descendents number 77. She was the oldest of six children and all her siblings preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Polin Evans,
one daughter, Joy Evans; one son, Joe Evans; one granddaughter, Heather Iliff; one grandson, Pat Adams; one sister, Lucy Vaughn; and four brothers, Joe Carrico, Dan Carrico, Roddy Carrico and Jimmy Carrico.

She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Evans of Crystal River, Fla., Sandy (Denny) Adams of Rooster Run, and Terri (Bill) Osbourne of Bardstown; three sons, Martin Evans of Bardstown, Craig (Vicki) Evans of Rooster Run and Michael (Kim) Evans of Cox’s Creek; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; six great-great-great-grandchildren; her friend and loving caregiver, Margaret Greenwell; as well as many others who loved her so much.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Samuels with the Rev. Peter Do officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Nelson County Association for Handicap or the St. Gregory Church Building Fund.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
