Chaplin man identified as the victim in Ashes Creek Road fatal crash

Friday, Oct. 11, 2018 — Authorities have released the name of the man who died in an accident on Ashes Creek Road sometime early in the morning of Thursday, Oct. 10.

At about noon Thursday, deputies from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Ashes Creek Road for a report of vehicle off the roadway and in some trees. Deputies located the vehicle and found that the driver, Carl Justice, 56, of Chaplin, was dead in the vehicle.

Officers investigating the scene believe the accident happened overnight, and that the vehicle was not spotted earlier because it wasn’t visible from the road.

The cause of death was not released. The victim’s body was sent Thursday to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
