John Spalding Mattingly, 86, Louisville

John Spalding Mattingly, 86, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the VA Medical Center.

JOHN SPALDING MATTINGLY

Born February 25, 1925 in Marion County, he was an Army Veteran of World War II and member of Local Union #89.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Helene Mattingly; his second wife, Mary Kathleen Bowling “Phoebe” Mattingly; his parents, John Augustine and Mary Gertrude Spalding Mattingly; and two sisters, Mildred McCauley and Geraldine Cecil.

Survivors include five daughters, Jenny Thomas, Sue Ann Thompson (Kenny), Brenda Haas (Mike), Angela Marshall (Troy), Therese Kocis (Pete); four sons, Lonnie Mattingly, John A. Mattingly (Diane), Jerry Mattingly (Dee Dee)and Mark Mattingly (Tammie); two stepson, Kenny Woods (Johnna), Don Woods (Barbara); a stepdaughter, Mary Pat Thompson;  two sisters, Sue Thompson and Mayola Thomas; two brothers, Bernard Mattingly and John Mattingly, Jr.; 29 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church with interment in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in St. Francis.  Military Rites will be performed by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.  The Most Rev. Bishop-Elect Charles C. Thompson and Rev. Robert Dale Cieslik will concelebrate.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday at Ratterman Family Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
