Obituary: Juanita Mattingly, 81, New Hope

Juanita Mattingly, 81, of New Hope, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 9, 1937, in New Hope. She was a former employee of Jim Beam Distillery with 33 years of service. She was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she had served as chairman of the bereavement committee. She was also a volunteer at the New Hope food bank. Her motto was “patience is a virtue” and she lived by it.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kenneth “Bishop” Mattingly (2016); her parents, John “Yankee” and Helen Williamson Bell; and one brother, Tony Bell.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane Donnelly (Billy) of New Hope; one son, Ken Mattingly of Georgetown; two sisters, Phyllis Kelly of Louisville and Barbara Grayson (Jim) of Versailles; three brothers, John Francis Bell Jr. of Louisville, George Bell (Barbara Engles) of New Hope and Eddie Bell of Bardstown; one sister-in-law, Jean Lois O’Bryan (J-Dan) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Joe Bradley Donnelly (Kirstin Stiles), Aaron Donnelly (Amy Clan) and Stephanie Donnelly (Luke Mouser), all of New Hope and Chad Donnelly (Julie Lunt) of Palm Coast, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Bailey and Chalen; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty and the Rev. Ken Fortener concelebrating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers are Joe Bradley Donnelly, Aaron Donnelly, Luke Mouser, George Bell, John Bell and Andrew Masterson.

Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
