Obituary: Lee Dock ‘L.D.’ Wheeler, 86, Sonora

Lee Dock “L.D.” Wheeler, 86, of Sonora, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville with his family by his side. He was the owner and operator of Wheeler Sunoco, a farmer, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and working with his hands. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Louisville to the late Curn and Ethel Cora Hawkins Wheeler. He was saved at the age of 18 at Mount Zion Separate Baptist Church in Magnolia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Wade Wheeler; one sister, Lavonna “Cricket” Bowen; one brother, June Wheeler; and one great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Delores Gibson Wheeler, a son Charles (Alice)Wheeler, two daughters, Debbie (Carlos) Tucker, Julie Houk, and daughter-in-law, Joyce Wheeler,8 grandchildren, Missy (Jerry) Parrett, Matthew (Mindy)Tucker, Patrick (Michelle) Wheeler, Tera Thompson, Justin (Ashley) Jackson, Blake Wheeler, Holly (Jimmy) Shaw, and Taylor Houk and (Tommy), 14 great-grandchildren, Chase, Tanner, Weston, Mattie, Oakley, Bradley, Paxton, Abby, Anna, James, Keira, Kylie, Ashlyn, and Auston two great-great-grandchildren, Easton, and Ryan, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel with the Rev. William Curle, and Bro. Matt Tucker officiating. Burial is in the Mount Zion Separate Baptist Church Cemetery in Magnolia.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, and after 9 a.m. at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel.
