Obituary: John Jacob Osterman Jr., 88, Grove City, Ohio

John Jacob Osterman Jr., 88, of Grove City, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, in Bardstown. He was born June 18, 1930, in Louisville.

He graduated from the University of Louisville in Accounting. He was a major in the US Air Force serving for 13 years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from the Youth Commission for The State of Ohio. He was the previous owner of Sincerely Yours Women’s Clothing, Osterman’s Coffee Shop, Captain John’s Teen Club, and Osterman’s Racing Stable. He was a owner, breeder, and trainer racing thoroughbred horses. He grew up playing basketball in his high school which lead to his coaching of little league for his sons including the Grove City Golden Hawks runner up national champions of 1975. He was a avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He was an active member of Orient United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge #37, American Legion Post #164, Moose Lodge #11, the Grand Lodge of Kentucky Boaz Masonic Lodge #850 and a Kentucky Colonel. Most important he was a active family man and devoted husband to his wife of 61 years. He will be missed by many of his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jacob Osterman Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Caster Osterman; his loving wife Patricia Ann Horton Osterman; and one sister, Mary Pauline Osterman Wieting.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Doug) Alexander of Bardstown, and Sherry (George) Hakes; two sons, John (Kim) Osterman III, and David (Teresa) Osterman; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial is in the Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at the Spence-Miller Funeral Home, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City, Ohio.

Memorial donations may go to Nelson County Kentucky Hospice, 711 McDowell Blvd., Bardstown, Ky, 40004, in his memory.
