Obituary: Joseph Martin ‘Little Buck’ Newton, 95, New Haven

Joseph Martin “Little Buck” Newton, 95, of New Haven, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 13, 1923, in Holy Cross. He was a retired farmer and avid clock collector. He became known as “the clock man” with 697 clocks proudly displayed throughout his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ernest and Anna Belle Riggs Newton; four daughters, Leona Newton, Linda Fay Newton, Connie Sue Newton and Barbara Sapp; three sons, Joseph Newton, Louis Newton and Timothy Wade Newton; six sisters, Essie Riggs, Ella Mattingly, Gladys Hardin, Louise Blanford, Lucille Simpson and Mary Belle Muncy; two brothers, Albert and Edgar Newton; two grandsons, Brian Newton and Anthony Wade Newton; and one great-grandson, Jacob Culver.

Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Ayers (Michael), Wanda Brooks (Bennie) and Phyllis Nalley (Charlie) all of Bardstown, Margie Tucker (Jerry) of New Haven and Doris Jo Bowling (Gerry) of Georgetown; two sons, Jimmy Newton (Sharon) of New Haven and Stevie Newton (Tammy) of Bardstown; 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; four step-children, Clyde Brown (Barbara), Philip Brown (Betty), Wanda Hill and Kathy Riggs.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 59 New Haven Road, Loretto with Deacon Joseph R. Dant presiding. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 PM Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM by Deacon Sam Filiatreau.

Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
