Obituary: Nancy Howard, 96, Bardstown

Nancy Howard, 96, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Signature Health of Bardstown. She was born Feb. 12, 1922 in Nelson County to the late Russell and Mary Myrtle Greenwell Downs. She was retired from Jim Beam Brands after 28 years of service. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #121. She was also a former member of the Oklahoma Historical Society, honorable member of the Ottawa Indian Tribe and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Coulter and Elgetha Piles; and one brother, Kenny Downs.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Bob) Daugherty of Louisville and Linda (Tom) Kennedy of Portland, Ind.; one son, Billy (Carolyn) Howard of Louisville; one brother, Melvin (Jody) Downs of Chattanooga; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, with evening prayers and 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
