One dead after Monday morning crash on Nelsonville Road near Boston

Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 — One person died Monday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Nelsonville Road about a half mile from its intersection with Boston Road, US62.

At 8:52 a.m., the Nelson County Fire Department, Nelson County EMS, Boston Fire and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched for the single-vehicle crash on Nelsonville Road. The first firefighter on the scene confirmed the vehicle was on fire and the victim trapped inside. Investigators said the vehicle left the right side of Nelsonville Road for unknown reasons before traveling down the embankment and striking a tree.

William C. Girdley, 75, of Nelsonville Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner.

The Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.
