Obituary: John Thomas ‘J.T.’ Fulkerson Jr., 58, Cox’s Creek

John Thomas “J.T.” Fulkerson Jr., 58, of Cox’s Creek, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at University Hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1960, in Nelson County. He was a retired sergeant from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, a former Bardstown Police Department patrolman, and a community service deputy jailer for the Nelson County Jail. He enjoyed farming, racing, and truck pulling. He was a singer and songwriter for Common Creek. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Logan Thomas Fulkerson; his father, John Thomas “J.T.” Fulkerson Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Emmett and Catherine Fulkerson; and his maternal grandparents, Leslie and Pearl Moomey.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tammy Hardin Fulkerson of Cox’s Creek; one daughter, Kimberly Dawn (Kory) Chasteen of Cox’s Creek; one son, John Thomas “Trey” Fulkerson III of Cox’s Creek; his mother, Doris Moomey Fulkerson; three sisters, Kathy Danner and Luann (Howard) Summers, both of Bardstown, and Johnna (Pete) Pettyjohn of Versailles; one brother, Bill (Vickie) Houk of Bardstown; four special cousins who were like his brothers, Russell Fulkerson, Emmett “Clem” Karr, Willie Fulkerson and Marlin Robinson; one brother-in-law, Deputy Jerry Hardin; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at New Salem Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Gann officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, and 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at the Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to American Cancer Society or New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
