Obituary: Dr. Phillip Lawrence ‘Larry’ Nally, 84, Bardstown
Dr. Phillip Lawrence “Larry” Nally, 84, of Bardstown, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Franciscan Health Care Center in Louisville. He was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Fredericktown. He was a graduate of St. Joe Prep, and stated that the principles he learned at St. Joe Prep helped him throughout life. He later became president of St. Joe Prep Alumni. He attended Dayton University, then left to join the U.S. Army. It was on a dental checkup at Tripler Army Hospital, that the dentist exclaimed, “look at those long fingers, you’ve got to be a dentist.” He then decided to attend Bellarmine College pre-dental and graduated in June 1962 from dental school. He practiced dentistry for 37 years in Bardstown. He also had a gift of making candy and his bourbon fudge is marketed through the Abby of Gethsemani where it is their best seller. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Flaget Simms Montgomery Nally of Bardstown; two daughters, Sara (Jim) Goodman of Montclair, N.J., and Flaget Simms (Joe) Dube’ of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons, Philip Lawrence Nally Jr. of Lexington, James Richard Montgomery Nally III of Denver, Colo., and Thomas Matthew (Sally) Nally of Louisville; two sisters, Yiti Bootes and Judy (Jim) McIntyre, both of Louisville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral, with burial in the St. Dominic Cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating.
Memorial contributions may go to St. Joseph Catholic Church for Masses.
