Obituary: Samuel J. Beam, 87, formerly of Bloomfield
Samuel J. Beam, 87, formerly of Bloomfield, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at his daughters residence in Texas. He was born April 29, 1931, in Louisville to the late Wilmer and Mary Joyce Oldham Beam. He was the former police chief and fire chief in Bloomfield. He was a former employee of Commonwealth Insurance Co. and a former employee of Nunn Milling Co. in Evansville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Goodlett Beam; two daughters, Charity Gay Beam and Tonni Coulter; one sister, Emily Katherine Hunt; and three brothers, Col. Wilmer M. Beam, Terry A. Beam, and Joseph C. Beam.
He is survived by one daughter, Gwen (Teddy) James of New Braunfell, Texas; two sons, David (Vicki) Dowell of Bristol, Tenn. and Sammy Beam of Hollywood, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Joe Vires officiating. Burial is in Highview Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at the funeral home.
