Obituary: Joseph Raymond ‘Popcorn’ ‘Slugger’ Lunsford, 80, New Haven
Joseph Raymond “Popcorn” “Slugger” Lunsford, 80, of New Haven, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. He was born May 31, 1938, in New Haven to the late Edward and Flora Tinnley Lunsford. He was a laborer and a loving brother and uncle and a special friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Frances Lunsford Maupin.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Vicki Lin House of Louisville and Denise (Bill) Pendley of Indiana; one brother, James B. Lunsford of Louisville; three nieces, Sarah Rose French, Annette (Sam) Allen; and two nephews Joey (Linda) Maupin and Mike (Debbie) Maupin; several grandchildren; special friends, Bobby Jo Martin, Judy (Damon) Osborne and Michelle (Rick) Carter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church with the Rev. Ken Fortener officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, and the William R. Rust Funeral Home New Haven Chapel, 167 N. Main St., New Haven, and 8:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
The William R. Rust Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
