Obituary: Amos H. Gritton, 86, Bloomfield

AMOS H. GRITTON

Amos H. Gritton, 86, of Bloomfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at his residence. He was born May 18, 1932 in Bloomfield to the late Amos H. and Clara S. Graham Gritton. He was a retired employee of General Electric, a member of the Nelson County School Board from 1982-1988, the former 5th District Magistrate from 1989-2001, and in 2005, he received the T. Gerald Florence outstanding Alumni Award for the Bloomfield High School class of 1955. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and Elder Emeritus, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Casey and Nancy Cornish; and one brother, Edward “Ed” Gritton.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wright Gritton; one daughter, Jonita (Tom) Pierce of Georgetown; two sons, Amos H. “Scotty” Gritton III of Louisville and Mark (Janet) Gritton of Bonnieville; one sister, Anna Laura Wells of Bloomfield; five grandchildren, Benjamin Gritton, Hilary Gritton, John Colin Gritton, Emma Scott Frazier, and Sam Blanton; and one great-grandchild, Foster Gritton.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Tom Pierce, Bro. Tom Sparrow, and Bro. Bobby Olliges officiating. Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at the funeral home.

The Houghlin Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
