Obituary: Joseph Leo Wimsett, 81, New Haven

Joseph Leo Wimsett, 81, of New Haven, went to be with his heavenly Father Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at his residence in New Haven with his family by his side. He was born in New Haven to the late Joseph Earl and Cecilia Bryan Wimsett. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at Owens-Illinois. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Earl and Cecilia Bryan Wimsett; two sisters, Martha Wimsett Beam and Mary Louise Wimsett; and eight brothers, Joe Wimsett Jr., Raffo Wimsett, Eddie Wimsett, Jack Wimsett, Marvin Wimsett, J.D. Wimsett, and Ray Wimsett.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Braden Wimsett of New Haven; one daughter, Cindy Sanders of Bardstown; two sons, the Rev. Scott Wimsett of Louisville and Billy (Glenda) Wimsett of New Haven; four grandchildren, Chris Sanders, Brian Sanders, Ashley Wimsett, and Kim Carey; one great-granddaughter, Haylee Evoy; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at St. Catherine Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Scott Wimsett officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, and after 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019 at the William R. Rust Funeral Home New Haven Chapel with a prayer service Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The William R. Rust Funeral Home New Haven Chapel 167 N. Main Street New Haven is in charge of arrangements.
