Obituary: Ruth McAllister, SCN, 89, Louisville

Ruth McAllister, SCN, 89, of Louisville, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Nazareth Home. She was born in Columbus, Ohio. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 67 years. She served in educational ministries in Louisville at St. Augustine and St. Frances of Rome; St. Mary School in Paris; St. Mary in St. Clairsville, Ohio; and LaSalette Academy, Covington.

She also served in the business office at Spalding University (then Catherine Spalding College) in Louisville. She served in pastoral ministry at Mother of God in Covington (1972-1980), her ministry was in parish work. She continued to serve in parish ministry at St. Peter, Lexington and at Holy Family in Birmingham, Ala. She served as the director of religious education at Berea College, at St. Brigid in Vine Grove, and Holy Rosary in St. Mary, Ohio. She served in community service at Nazareth from 1995-2015 and practiced art during that time. She studied art full time at Xavier University for two semesters from 1994-1995.

She is survived by three sisters, Jean McFadden, Rose Marie Bigler and Judy Dennison; a number of nieces and nephews; and her religious community.

The wake is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at St. Vincent de Paul Church on the Nazareth campus.

The Memorial Mass is 10:50 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at the church.

Visitation is 10:30-11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High St., Lockbourne, Ohio with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Msgr. John K. Cody officiating. Burial is in the family plot at St. Joseph.
