Bardstown man, 18 & juvenile, 17 arrested after overnight crime spree

Wednesday, June 22, 2011, 5:30 p.m. — An 18-year-0ld Bardstown man and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested and charged with a series of vehicle thefts and burglaries that took place between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Anthony Kapetanios, 18, of Bardstown was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with four counts of third-degree burglary; three counts of theft by unlawful taking over $500-automobile; criminal mischief and unlawful transaction with a minor. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.

The juvenile was taken to a juvenile detention facility and charged with four counts of burglary, three counts of theft by unlawful taking (automobile) and criminal mischief.

The arrests followed an investigation by Bardstown Police after they began receiving burglary and vehicle theft reports from the Pennebaker Avenue area.

The businesses that were victimized by the teenagers’ crime spree included Riggs Carpet & Flooring; Joe Buckman Flooring; We Paint and More; Joe Donald Riggs Construction; and 2D Enterprises Supply.

According to Bardstown Police, investigators believe the two stole three vehicles and went joy riding in them and causing damage to at least two of them. One of the vehicles, a U-Haul box truck, had the windows broken out. Another vehicle was left stuck in the mud off Withrow Creek. Police said they believe the duo also burglarized five businesses.

Police said they have recovered most of the items that were stolen.  The investigation by officers Tim Simpson, Tony Satterly and Tom Blair is continuing. Police ask that anyone with information contact them at (502) 348-6811.
