Wednesday, March 6, 2019 — Congressman Brett Guthrie announced Tuesday, the beginning of the 2nd District 2019 Congressional Art Competition.

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual high school art contest held by each of the U.S. House of Representatives in their respective congressional districts.

“There are so many talented students in the Second District, and every year I am impressed by the level of skill among the submissions to the annual Congressional Art Competition,” Guthrie said in a press release. “I look forward to seeing this year’s entries. Best of luck to all of the participants!”

All high school art students (grades 9-12) are encouraged to submit artwork for the competition. Artwork and application materials are due to Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green office by Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

The winner and finalists will be selected by an independent panel of art professors from colleges and universities across the district. The first place winner from each congressional district will receive two tickets to fly to Washington, D.C., to view their artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol and attend a congressional reception in their honor. The winning artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the rest of the year.

Additionally, Congressman Guthrie will hold a “Facebook Favorite” competition to give members of the general public the opportunity to vote for their favorite entries. Artwork will be posted on his official Facebook page, and the winning piece will be displayed in Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green District Office.

The online competition will be open from Monday, April 15 – Thursday, April 18 at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. All artwork will be returned to the students following the competition.

Rules and guidelines are available under the “Constituent Services” section of Congressman Guthrie’s website. Faculty or students with questions can also reach out to Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green District Office at 270-842-9896.
